Beauty Buzz: Recent Make Up Haul

Hello! I have been buying make-up bits every now and then and thought I'd share some of the things I've bought in the last month or so.

Most of the things in the picture above are from Rimmel London, a drugstore make-up brand from the UK that I think was recently launched in India. I am so far, very impressed with almost everything I've tried from Rimmel and I love they way they've priced their products. The Rimmel lipsticks (above) were only for Rs. 215!!!!! And the quality is pretty amazing.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation: We already have the Stay Matte powders and love them. Perfect for the oily skin prone and great to combat the Bombay humidity. So when we saw the foundation of the same range, we decided to try them out. Now, I don't love nor do I hate them. They go on smoothly enough, I apply mine with a wet sponge and love the results. But with a stipling brush it took ages to blend in. They last a while and doesn't fade out. They were for Rs. 315 or so, fairly economical and they smell mild and decent and it didn't break me out or anything. So overall, I do like it.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara: We are always looking to try new mascaras hoping to find the perfect one. So, when we saw the bright orange tube of this mascara and it's massive wand and thought we'd give it a go. It's decent, I do not remember the price but it wasn't very much. The wand is immense like I said and it does a decent job at volumising your lashes. It goes on smoothly and does clump. So we are plenty happy with it.

Rimmel Lipstick: Eyes on Me- which is a rosy brown colour, a great nude for medium to slightly dusky skin tones. It smooth and moisturising and it doesn't last very long but I don't see that as such a great problem.

Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick- In numbers 19 and 22. They are super, super smooth and soft and moisturizing and you don't need a lipbalm under these lipsticks. I picked up a nude pinky- brown and a bright pink-red shade. I love them both.

I love love love this bright blue nail paint from Sally Hansen in the shade Pacific Blue, the perfect summer blue nail paint if you ask me.

Recently, I had myself a little Revlon haul.

I picked up an eye-shadow quartet in Seductive- I wanted a purple eye-shadow for some time now. I have a few darker shades of purple in my make-up collection but they aren't exactly right for summer. I wanted some lilac/lavender colours and had two shadows from MAC on my mental wishlist. But I spotted this quartet and decided to get this since it's cheaper and these are sort of trendy colours, so why spend a ton of money on them?! I love this so far and am glad I got it.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Papaya- I am loving all things coral and orange-tinged this summer and this lipgloss was on my list of things to get for a while now. Sadly, it seemed sold out in most places. I, finally, got my hands on it and love it. It's not very orange, more like a peach flush which looks great on. I simply LOVE the formulation of the Revlon glosses, they are non-sticky and smooth and light. So much better than MAC and at par with Chanel glosses in my opinion. LOVE them!

Now for some bummer...We picked up the newly launched Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks. Mine is in the shade 'Socialite' and it is a pretty rosy-brown toned pink, while Sally's is a more woody-brown called 'All Access'. While swatching them at the store, they came out all creamy and lovely, but when we wore them later, they went on all sticky and slightly goopy. Not good! These lipsticks do have a phenomenal staying power and once the shine wears off, you are left with a pretty stain. The stickiness is not making us happy at all, but since we paid Rs. 650 a pop for these, we are going to do our best to make it work.. perhaps wear a gloss over it? Let's see. We'll tell you about our make-it-work experience at some point. For now, we are muchos bummed out! :(

So, that is all for our recent beauty haul... We'll be back soon with the BB cream review. We tried on yet another one, so there will be four to be compared and reviewed. Excited!

Take care, y'all!

Pink, Polka and Floral.

Summer style for me is simple- wear cottons thingies and colourful things that make summer heat less intense. Seriously, Bombay is so gosh-darn hot right now, I am have become a vampire of sorts. I avoid daylight as much as I can. I stay in and wait for the evening to step out.

I wore this outfit to go mall-shopping for presents for a dear friend. This polka blouse has been on this blog before a couple of times and I love it so. I hardly see that many polka dot things in stores and I am a huge fan of all things polka dots.  Also, I love this little bag of mine, I bought it last year in the rainy season (monsoons) from Westside and because it was season inappropriate I didn't get around to using it, so this summer I was hell-bent on getting to it. I love the happy floral print and it fits a decent amount of things. Sadly, the bags in Westside this season are terrible and I am glad I bought a couple of these cute things last year when for some reason they were flooded with cute bags!

Quickie Post: Colaba Causeway Earrings

Colaba Causeway is a veritable treasure trove when it comes to all kinds of fun jewellery!

We found some of these cute filigree-esque earrings at almost the end of our walk down Causeway....

Love the shape of these babies! The lotus-like motif in the center is interesting and pretty!

These round earrings had a bit of a spoke-and-wheel thing going, which we loved!

This definitely has a more Moroccan feel to it....

Love how curvy this earring is... Can not wait to wear it!

A couple of feathers for fun!

And last, but not the least, our favourite find- these dream catcher-esque earrings! Available in many colours but we liked this contrast the most!

We paid around Rs. 70 or less for each of these. Of course, the stated price was around Rs. 125-150, from where we bargained and brought it down to whatever we eventually ended up paying... :)

Are you finding any fun treasures in flea markets, street shops or other such places? Do share!

Quickie Post: Colaba Causeway Bracelets

It was an atypically bright and breezy spring day in early April when Holly and I went strolling down Colaba Causeway- something we hadn't done in a while. There was really nothing specific that we were looking for. We were hoping that as we strolled down and peeked into the street-side stalls, cute things would jump out at us. And guess what?! They did!

Here are some bracelets that we picked up that day.....

Anyone who has read more than three posts on this blog will know that our Holly is a lover of all things peace sign related! So, when she saw these peace sign bracelets in multiple candy and neon colours, she just couldn't help herself! A red, candy pink and ivory coloured peace bracelet came home with us....

Here is another looksie at them... They are the typical soft elastic bracelets and are eminently stackable.

As we almost reached the end of Causeway- Regal (we start from the other end and walk down in reverse!)- we found a guy who was selling some rather subtle gold-toned charm bracelets. The first one we picked up had, no surprises, peace symbols and owls! Who doesn't love that?!

The second one has flowers, little cute elephants and some gold balls- like Christmas decorations. Very cute! Again, these are very stackable. Wear it with a watch or with other bracelets for a more layered look.

Speaking of layered looks, these candy and neon coloured pyramid stud bracelets were just what we were looking for. Actually, we were looking for all-pastel ones, but these were a good substitute. These are great for layering with metallic bracelets and bangles for a nice bit of edginess.

Here they are again.... Love the texture on them.

The best part about picking up fun items off street stalls is all the bargaining and haggling that goes on. We got pretty good deals on all of them.  Be sure to haggle your heart out!

Have you scored any good deals from street markets/ flea markets/ thrift stalls? Any good places in Bombay that we should go check out? Please share! :)

See you soon!

Everyday Essentials: Eyes and Lips

I thought I'd share some of my Everyday Essentials (yes, they deserve to be in 'title case'!) :)

For my eyes, I use:
MAC Pro Longwear Lie Low eyeshadow| I apply it all over the lid. It is a subtle bronze-y colour with flecks of rose gold in it and is perfect for everyday wear. It is also very build-able. If I want to do a smokey eye for an after-work thing, I can use a matte brown shade or a more intense bronze-y shade in the crease and voila! all set for after-work shenanigans!

MAC Carbon Eyeshadow: Super versatile! I use it to set my kajal and do my upper lash line, sort of like an eyeliner. Carbon, in our opinion, is a total must-have!

MAC Feline Power Eye Pencil: The blackest of black kohl pencil. I used to be a hard core, loyal Graph Black user and then I found Feline and I have shamelessly switched over! So dark and so smooth. But, it tends to be a little smudgy, so, I set it with Carbon.

Bourjois Beauty Full Volume Mascara: Self-Explanatory. For those who, like me, have tiny lashes and could do with some volume and length! :)

And oh, if you are wondering, all this primping takes me only 5 minutes! :)

I adore anything that Burt's Bees comes up with and this Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter is my new favourite! It is so super soft and smooth and leaves the lips feeling uber-moisturized!

What are your Everyday Essentials for the eyes and lips? Do tell! :)

Go Green!

April 22 was Earth Day. This year, more than ever, I thought about what we're doing to our planet and what kind of a world are we planning to bequeath to our next generation?! As we speak (type), there is a severe drought in Maharashtra and there is water crisis in multiple other states. What are we each doing in our own way to conserve water and energy?

Me? This Earth Day, I planted a little sapling in my building's garden. A gulmohar sapling. I hope someday she becomes a big, strong tree with pretty red flowers and those sword-shaped seed pods that I loved playing with as a child :)

I wore this green tunic a few weeks back for lunch with family and friends.
